imap-4.4: description + notes

NAME

IMAPd - Internet Message Access Protocol server

SYNOPSIS

/usr/etc/imapd

DESCRIPTION

imapd is a server which supports the IMAP4 remote mail access protocol as documented in RFC-1730. It allows you to remotely connect to your mail server and read/compose your email from a remote machine. imapd is invoked by the internet server (see inetd(8)), normally for requests to connect to the IMAP4 port as indicated by the /etc/services file (see services(5)). Normally, this is port 143.

NOTE: This product replaces fw_BSDqpopper. You will have to remove fw_BSDqpopper by yourself, though. No automatic replaces rules have been defined, on purpose! This way you can install both during a "transition period" so that you won't lose functionality while configuring imapd.
